And another fun decoupage project for kids & adults is done! It is a bottle-lantern based on the architecture of Friedensreich Hundertwasser, 20th century European visual artist and architect. A combination of art & architecture always makes every project unique and educational!
A little bit of a history – Hundertwasser (1928-2000) was an Austrian artist and architect, known for it vibrant use of color and unique shapes. He was devoted to an idea of living in harmony with nature, organic forms and growing vegetation on rooftops. His paintings featured bright colors – blue & red. His most famous creation is The Hundertwasser House in Vienna, named after him, which became a very notable landmark and tourist attraction.
“When we dream alone it is only a dream, but when many dream together it is the beginning of a new reality.”
F. Hundertwasser
Materials:
- You will need a glass bottle (or a jar, or a milk container for kids 4+ years old),
- acrylic paints, all-purpose primer, brushes (№1, №2, №8 synthetic)
- windows printout from google (or any other source), Hundertwasser house image as a reference,
- Elmer’s glue, acrylic medium matte gel/decoupage glue and varnish (or top coat for acrylic paints)
- A jar with a clear water for painting
Step 1. Prepare a clean bottle and a printout of the windows that you are going to be using.
Step 2. Decide where and how want to place the windows on the bottle’s surface and paint those areas with a Elmer’s glue to keep those areas from painting over. Then paint the rest of the bottle with all-purpose primer, avoiding window locations.
Step 3. Once the primer is dry, start applying blue and red acrylic colors, according to the referencing image.
Step 4. While the acrylic paint is drying (give it at least 20 minutes), cut out the windows from the printout and starts gluing it with Acrylic Medium Matte Gel onto the bottle.
Step 5. Allow it to dry for sometime and cover it with the top coat varnish or any acrylic top finish spray.
Step. 6 I had some bottle string lights at home, so I used them to make an effect of inside light in the bottle 🙂
Enjoy and have fun!
